- Anybody still making ID tags for the '29 Essex?

- There only place to find an excellent reproduction of the 1929 Essex VIN plates is ; PULFER & WILLIAMS603-525-3532 The plates comes without the numbers. You have to put them in by yourself or a jeweler!

Serial numbers

Location

1) In the engine compartment on the firewall is a metal placard with the serial number.

2) Stand at the rear of the car and look down at the right rear bumper. It is stamped facing up on the black suspension support.

And I should add that hopefully, the 2 numbers match

The serial numbers of engine and chassis do not match. My understanding is that it got out of kilter after a huge recall of the early 6 cylinder engines around 1924/25. The engine in my '28 coach is original as I have the original ownership papers and the numbers are different by approx 64000. Unless people have original documentation, who would know what changes have taken place with these cars over the last 80 years!

No, the engine numbers do not match with the serial numbers. The engine numbers started in 1924, and continued right through until 1932. In late 1924 they recalled a heap of cars and replaced the engines, hence the engine numbers from then on only had a loose correlation to the chassis.
